Following the recent attacks in Rwanda in areas of Nyaruguru which is about 100kms from the Capital Kigali, a new rebel Movement has come out to claim their responsibility and announced the intentions to topple the current ruling government under President Paul Kagame by force of arms.
National Liberation Forces (NLF) is the rebel group in quotes that also went further to give reasons why they decided to declare war on the Paul Kagame government.
They accuse the president of dividing the nation, suppression of civil liberties, amending the Constitution to stay in office, harassment of political opponents, failing to address poverty, starvation and mass unemployment.
Under a statement issued by the so-called Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (RMDC), it was revealed that the armed forces was formed with an assigned mission of putting to an immediate end to the dictatorial power of the RPF Kagame.
“The NLF will use all possible means including the armed struggle to drive the RPF out of power, since it refused all peaceful ways,”Further reads the shocking statement.
The group has claimed responsibility for recent attacks in Rwanda some of which have been verified by police.
“At about 23:30 Sunday July 1, 2018, an armed gang with rifles attacked Nyaruguru District in Nyabimata Sector, Ruhinga Cell in Cyamuzi Village. They attacked through Nyungwe forest from Burundi and they fled back in the same direction. This is a similar incident that occurred in the same district less than two weeks ago. The gang stole items belonging to community members including livestock and food items like beans, rice, Irish potatoes. ” A statement from the Rwanda National Police revealed.
Burundi has since denied accusations of harboring Rwandan rebels, saying it should be Rwanda to blame for arming and training Burundian dissidents to destabilize the reign of President Pierre Nkurunziza.
The rebels revealed that they had not only raided Nyaruguru but also carried out other attacks in Cyangugu, Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Bugesera and Huye, claiming that in each of these areas, the soldiers of Kagame suffered casualties and those who escaped preferred to take their legs close to their necks.
However, the Rwandan officials came out immediately to suppress these report, claiming that they were not aware of armed attacks in the aforementioned areas apart from Nyaruguru.
The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has not yet come out on the attacks in Rwanda but sources reveal that he might be tactfully letting police handle the matter possibly to avoid alarming citizens and visitors.
However, President Kagame came out recently and warned about the tough time ahead, saying Rwanda was prepared for war if imposed on his country.
“RDF is trained and prepared to fight wars but not to start them with others. But if others make us their problem and choose to start a war with us, that is when we use judgment, determination and training to fight and finish it for them.” President Kagame alongside his top army men warned.
